The American Friends of Atlas Kinder foundation (AFAK) is a 501(c)(3) non profit foundation based in the United States. We are dedicated to transforming the lives of abandoned and vulnerable children in Morocco by supporting an extraordinary village called Dar Atlas in the High Atlas mountains.

Where do the children come from?

The children in our care are referred to us through official channels, primarily by Moroccan child protection services and local courts. They come from diverse backgrounds and challenging circumstances such as loss of parents, abandonment, or situations where their families are unable to provide safe care. Each placement is made with the child’s long-term well-being as the top priority.

How many children live at the village?

Dar Atlas Village is a true community, currently home to around 200 children.
They live in small, family-style houses, each cared for by a dedicated full-time housemother who provides stability, love, and guidance.

How long do the children stay at the village?

Our commitment is long-term. Most children grow up with us from early childhood until they are ready for independence.
We support them through their education, from primary school to university or vocational training, ensuring they are prepared to lead fulfilling adult lives.

Can I visit the village?

Yes, visitors are welcome!
To protect the children’s safety and privacy, all visits must be scheduled in advance. please contact us via our website or email to arrange a guided visit. this helps us ensure your experience is meaningful while maintaining the children’s routine and sense of security.
