ABOUT US

The Atlas Kinder Foundation is a non profit organization based in Morocco that supports the lives of abandoned children. Their first village, Dar Bouidar is located at the foot of the Atlas Mountains in the town of Tahanout. This village was built in 2015 and is now the home to 170 abandoned children. The foundation aims to provide these children with the very best care, a loving home, a good education, healthy food, and clothing. Most importantly, Atlas Kinder aims to instill a confidence in each child so that they can become valued members of society.

 ABOUT AFAK

American Friends of Atlas Kinder Foundation (AFAK) was founded in 2020 by the Tamir and Levitt family.

Jonas Tamir was born and raised in Casablanca and moved to the United States to attend college.  He has had a lifelong career in fashion and is the President of Valentino Bags USA. Grateful for his life in the United States, Jonas has always had a yearning to give back to his home country.

In 2019, Mr. Tamir visited the village of Dar Bouidar where he met Atlas Kinder founder, Hansjorg Huber and learned about the work being done for abandoned children.

Recognizing that safety nets don’t exist in Morocco like they do in the United States, Jonas felt compelled to make a difference. The Tamir family made a generous donation and built the first nursery in Dar Bouidar - Le Courage, now home to 30 abandoned newborns.

Mr. Tamir is the President of AFAK. He lives in New Jersey with his wife and 2 sons.

Keri Levitt is the Executive Director or AFAK. Formerly the President of Keri Levitt Communications in NYC, Levitt recently packed up her 25 year career in fashion and lifestyle public relations after discovering the magic of Morocco. In 2019, Levitt started Morocco by Design, a bespoke travel company that curates highly luxurious and deeply immersive trips and events throughout Morocco. Keri discovered the Atlas Kinder foundation on a trip in 2019 and fell in love with what she saw and knew she needed to get involved in a meaningful way.

WHAT WE DO

AFAK’s mission is to increase awareness around the issues of child abandonment in Morocco and to actively fundraise in the United States. All money raised goes directly to support the efforts on the ground at the Atlas Kinder Foundation. AFAK built the first nursery at the village of Dar Bouidar in the Spring of 2020 that is now the home to 30 newborn abandoned children. If we are not building nurseries, then we are building more villages. Our goal is to eradicate this problem and provide every single abandoned child with a proper home and a bright future. In addition to fundraising, we aim to build strong strategic partnerships with US companies looking to expand their charitable footprint globally in Morocco.
